Good points from Paul — add a couple of practical checks: ask for high‑res pics of the bracelet endlinks and clasp code, close-ups of the dial and date font, a short video of the bezel click and lume in the dark, and a shot of the case between the lugs (serial/reference). Beware an over‑polished case or mismatched hands/dial — parts swapped or aftermarket bits kill value and mean future headaches. If you like it, pay a small fee to have a trusted independent watchmaker (or Rolex AD if you can afford it) pop the case and confirm the movement before handing over cash. If it all checks out, wear it hard; if it smells off, walk — no shame in saving a paycheck.
