Been eyeballing a Rolex Submariner lately and can’t decide if it’s overkill or actually practical for daily wear. Anyone here own one and can be straight about comfort, reliability, and service costs? Grew up with Nokias, so I’m old-school but curious—worth the hype?

I’ve had a Sub for a couple years and after the first week it just melts into your wrist—bracer/clam is really comfy and it totally works as a daily. It’s mechanically solid and reliable, but remember it’s a mechanical watch so expect occasional regulation and a proper service every 7–10 years, which can run from a few hundred to over a thousand depending on what needs doing. If you want a rugged, versatile piece that looks great with jeans or a suit it’s practical, but yeah it’s overkill if you just want a no-fuss beater you won’t mind replacing. Personally I enjoy it and the resale peace-of-mind, but don’t buy solely for hype.
