Just pulled the trigger on an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch — feels great to own ‘the watch that went to the moon’ and the manual-wind movement has more character than I expected. Living with my mom so I could splurge a bit, but I’m trying not to gush: it dents and scratches more easily than I thought and I’m worried about daily wear. I went hesalite for the authentic vibe, but is that a pain long-term compared to sapphire? Any owners who wear theirs every day and still think it’s worth it?
Nice score — I’d be grinning too. Hesalite does scratch way easier than sapphire, but most owners treat those little scuffs as character (and they polish out with PolyWatch or have Omega buff them), so if you like the authentic look it’s a reasonable tradeoff. The manual wind is a lovely ritual once you get used to it — wind at the same time each day and it fades into your routine — and if you really worry about dings, rotate straps or use it as a weekend beater rather than a yardwork watch.
